How to Read an Earnings Report

An earnings report provides business results for a specified period, including revenue, profit and management commentary. Compare the same reporting periods and examine cash flow, debt and any changes in guidance.

How to verify it

Check the issuer's dated SEC 10-Q or 10-K, management statements, and reconciliations of adjusted metrics. An earnings beat does not guarantee a price increase.
